What information is collected when someone reads Corvette Field Guide, who collects it, and how to limit it.

Nothing is collected directly from readers

The site has no accounts, no forms, no comments, and no email sign-up. There is nothing to fill in, so it holds no names, email addresses, or other personal details about its readers.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes standard technical data about each request, such as the IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. If Cloudflare needs to check that a visitor is a person and not an automated program, it may set a security cookie for that check. Cloudflare's privacy policy explains how it handles this data.

Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits without cookies

The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages are read and how readers find them. Cloudflare adds a small script to each page, loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com, that reports the page view to Cloudflare. It records:

  • the page viewed
  • the site that sent the reader here, such as a search engine
  • the country the visit came from
  • the type of device, browser, and operating system
  • how quickly the page loaded

The script sets no cookies and stores nothing in the browser. A visit is counted when a page view arrives from another site or a direct link, so the count never has to tell one reader from another. According to Cloudflare, Web Analytics does not collect or use visitors' personal data, does not fingerprint them, and does not track anyone from one website to another. Cloudflare receives the IP address with each report, as with any web request. According to Cloudflare, the analytics service discards it at the nearest Cloudflare data center and does not keep it in its databases or logs. The reports show totals and trends, not who any reader is.

Cloudflare keeps the full measurements for seven days, then a smaller sample (about a tenth for most sites) for longer-term totals. Cloudflare's description of the analytics script describes what it collects.

Guides that recommend parts may link to Amazon through the Amazon Associates program, which pays this site a commission on qualifying purchases. They are plain links: no Amazon ads, widgets, or code run on this site's own pages.

Following one of those links takes the reader to Amazon. Once there, Amazon may collect information directly and place or read cookies in the browser, including one that credits this site with the referral. Amazon's privacy notice applies on Amazon's site.

Amazon's reports to this site show only totals: which items were ordered and the commission earned. They never show who placed an order.

Readers can block cookies without breaking anything

This site sets no cookies of its own, and its analytics use none. The cookies a reader may meet are Cloudflare's occasional security-check cookie and, after following an Amazon link, Amazon's cookies on Amazon's site.

  • Block or delete cookies in the browser's settings. Every page on this site works the same without them.
  • Use an ad blocker or content blocker to stop the analytics script. According to Cloudflare, Adblock Plus, the Brave browser, and the DuckDuckGo extension already block it. The pages work the same either way.

This site does not respond to browser Do Not Track signals, and Cloudflare Web Analytics has no Do Not Track setting, so a visit may be counted either way. The count still uses no cookies and, according to Cloudflare, does not follow anyone from one website to another.

The site is not meant for children under 13

Corvette Field Guide is written for Corvette owners and buyers and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Changes show up here, with a new date

When the site's data practices change, this page is updated, and the "Last updated" date at the top changes with it.
